Prescott-Anschutz 8th Meeting Revealed
John Prescott was reportedly given a VIP tour of the London offices of casino mogul Philip Anschutz’s company one month after his controversial two-night stay at the Millennium Dome’s owner’s Colorado estate. The visit over summer of 2004 was not declared by Prescott. The eighth meeting was previously undisclosed, and it was believed that he only met up with Anschutz on six other occasions, with the Colorado visit being the last. The eighth meeting was allegedly with senior figures from Anschutz Entertainment Group, the firm bidding for the Millennium Dome to be turned into Britain’s first super casino. The meeting allegedly took place on August 17, 2005 as part of a visit to the Greenwich Peninsula. He is said to have been shown models of what the Dome would look like after its completion by chief executive Tim Leiweke. Tim Leweke is said to play a pivotal role in the company’s relationship between the government and casino mogul Anschutz. He was at five of the seven meetings between Prescott and Anschutz. It was also said that the day after Prescott left the ranch, Leiweke and his wife hosted a drinks reception for him to celebrate the success of London’s bid for the 2012 Olympic Bid, where Anschutz gave $1.5 million for the campaign. Hugo Swire, the Shadow Culture Secretary, said: “This eighth meeting further confirms that we need the Deputy Prime Minister to respond to our questions as a matter of urgency. The longer he takes to do this, the longer this public pantomime will rumble on.” Don Foster, the Liberal Democrat culture spokesman, said: “Mr Prescott has clearly invested a huge amount in this particular project and the independence of the Casino Advisory Panel must be assured.”

After testing several Google Search alternatives, I made the full switch to DuckDuckGo earlier this year. It provides me with direct results that I can work with for the majority of queries, and the excellent !bang feature to redirect queries to other search engines. For Google, I would simply append !g to open Googles search result page for the entered query, which is pretty comfortable once you get the hang out of it. I also switched the default search engine in Firefox to DuckDuckGo, to make use of the search right from the browsers address bar. You can follow the link above to find out how this is done in all major browsers. What you did not get until now where search suggestions or information when you enter a search term into the address bar. This has changed with the release of DuckDuckComplete, a Firefox add-on that is adding the feature to the browser. Once you have installed the add-on in the browser, you will notice that results appear to be different for some of your queries. You can best test this with simple queries first. If you enter speed of light for instance, you will see the first result returning the speed of light in meters per second, while the second and third result definitions from Merriam-Webster and Wikipedia. Firefoxs address bar can do conversions and calculations now after the extension has been installed. Not every direct lookup or calculation option is available though. If you check with the official goodies page, you will notice that several are not available directly from the urlbar yet. While you can get a random number immediately by entering random in the url bar, you wont get the temperature for New York displayed there. As a rule of thumb: All queries that lead to graphical displays are not available, while the majority of textual result queries are. The extension is especially useful for Duck Duck Go users who work with those special queries regularly. It can speed up things, as it is now no longer necessary to run the query on the search engines homepage, as it is already done and answered in Firefoxs address bar. A bill which would allow table games to be operated at Rhode Island racinos failed to advance beyond the governor’s veto, leaving voters unable to decide for themselves. A bill passed by both houses of the Rhode Island legislature which would allow full casino gambling at the state’s two slot parlors won’t make it to the voters, as a deadline to override the Governor’s veto passed today. Governor Donald Carcieri had refused to cooperate with a bill expanding gambling, and the lawmakers had to bypass the veto by today to have the measure placed on the ballot this year.The new law would allow the operation of table games, including blackjack and roulette, to the selection of gambling provided at the racinos.The Twin River slot parlor is already in bankruptcy, and the Newport Grand facility is struggling financially, as the state places an onerous tax burden on the gaming houses. Carcieri helped change rules which forced the two erstwhile dog tracks to meet minimum hours of live racing, as the racing was losing money, but the chunk given to the state is substantially greater than greyhound losses.Carcieri also denies his own constituents the right to decide the issue for themselves. Because the expansion of gambling requires a constitutional amendment, the ultimate fate of the bill would have been decided in the general election.With table gaming denied for more than a year at best, the future of the Rhode Island gambling houses is in question. Verizon is on a mission to acquire enough spectrum to keep it on top, as the carrier’s continued success depends on data revenue generated by high-speed networks. Verizon’s first quarter earnings exceeded Wall Street expectations on the strength of money brought in by data plans, cementing the company’s first place status. Last quarter, Verizon gained new subscribers after the release of the iPhone 4S, which ended up hurting the company’s profits due to heavy subsidies it paid to carry the coveted iPhone. This time around, Verizon still gained new subscribers, but its earnings windfall came from its data packages, with most customers keeping the same phone but upgrading services. An increase in data package payments was responsible for a 21-percent data revenue boost. Building on its data surge,Verizon is concentrating on ramping up its 4G LTE network, and plans to purchase spectrum from Comcast and other cable companies to bulk up the network. Already leagues ahead of competitors, Verizon’s 4G LTE will likely continue to propel the carrier ahead of rivals, as its widespread coverage and ample 4G-capable phone roster make it an appealing choice for consumers looking for the fastest network. The FCC and the DoJ are investigating Verizon’s Comcast deal, and rival T-Mobile believes the deal will negatively impact competition. The 4G phones use data more quickly, pumping up data package profits, a trend the carrier is working to solidify. Verizon is trying to move towards an all-LTE phone roster to encourage customers to choose data-guzzling phones. Verizon offered a “double-data” deal for some 4G phones, to hook customers on its faster network by offering discounts, so the pressure is on to keep the network going. The iPhone 5 is expected to run on 4G LTE, so Verizon may experience a repeat of what happened during the iPhone 4S release, gaining subscribers but losing some money due to hefty subsidies. Verizon’s beefy roster of Android 4G LTE smartphones, however, is also expected to sell well. Of course, Verizon’s data revenue requires working networks, so if the carrier’s pleas to the FCC are true, the company is in danger of losing everything if it grows too large to sustain its 4G LTE network. Verizon claims if it does not get a significant chunk of spectrum, it can’t continue providing service at this clip. So the fate of the company may rest in the hands of the FCC. Despite the strong financial showing, Verizon’s future success depends on the health of its 4G LTE network, and subsequently the amount of spectrum it has available. If the cable deal does not pass, Verizon may face problems keeping its networks up and running. And if it passes, it could be bad for competition but very good for Verizon.
